The story behind the “Kawarthas Outdoor Gallery”
A project of the Buckhorn Fine Art Festival

The “Kawarthas Outdoor Gallery” will feature a dramatic themed collection of world-class outdoor murals strategically placed throughout Buckhorn and neighboring communities of the Kawarthas. Plans are to develop the collection over the next 5-10 years through a variety of innovative, culturally inclusive and scalable community mural projects, mural festivals and community outreach collaborations that will be integrated with existing celebrations or implemented as stand alone events.

We are excited to introduce a project that will benefit the entire region: a transformational lead response solution for regional destination development that will engage our communities, foster the arts, promote tourism, encourage economic growth, and celebrate our cultural heritage; reaffirming the Kawarthas status as a leading destination for the arts, culture and natural heritage.

We envision a unique regional “Canadian Art Experience” that will eventually include: Buckhorn, the Curve Lake First Nation, Bridgenorth, Ennismore, Lakefield, Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, Apsley, Lindsay (Kawartha Lakes), Peterborough, Omemee, Kinmount, Kirkfield, Havelock and many more. The growing collection will be supported by a proprietary website and comprehensive media exposure. Ultimately a tour guide and map showing the location of all murals will be produced allowing visitors to plan and experience a true art adventure for the whole family. Led by our creative team, the inaugural selection, titled “Above the Lake” by artist John Lennard was featured as a community mural project at the Buckhorn Fine Art Festival in 2013. Mural #1 is sponsored by the Buckhorn District Tourist Association, and is located near Lock 31 of the Trent Severn Waterway in Buckhorn.

Join us in celebrating the region’s arts, culture and heritage! If you, your community or business would like to become part of this project or if you would just like more information, contact us today.
